The Canadian Politician – If there is a point of agreement between the Liberals and the Conservatives, it is on the fact that anti-racism initiatives and funding to the tone of $45 million put in place by the Liberal government will remain in a Conservative majority government. The Saskatchewan politician revealed this while campaigning in Thorold, in Ontario on Tuesday when asked by a reporter.
The Liberals had dedicated the sum to combat racism in the federal government to keep track of instances of racism with a view to putting in place policies that would tackle the menace. Part of the initiative is to set up a secretariat that would monitor and report instances of racism. The plan would also focus on communities around the country with particular focus on programs that would raise awareness about racism and assorted discrimination.
In spite of this initiative, critics believe that it has not gone far enough to address systemic racism that is ingrained in society that has impacted the ability of black Canadians and other racialize groups from gaining employment and advancing through the ranks in the federal government
