No evidence of threat to Canadian elections – Officials

The Canadian Politician – With the federal elections fast approaching, anxiety is high on the possibility of foreign actors interfering in Canadians elections as was witnessed in the U.S. presidential elections of 2016. If there are any lessons to be learnt from that experience, the Canadian security are on high alert and prepared to inform the public if necessary of any interference. Security agencies monitoring the situation indicate that they have not seen any evidence, but believe that foreign actors are preparing to interfere. Security agencies, particularly, the RCMP, The Canadian Security Intelligence Service, and the Communications Security Establishment are prepared to foil any attack on the integrity of Canadian elections while informing the public of any such attack. An official noted that the security agencies are capable and monitoring anyone, groups or organizations who are “taking steps to position themselves to clandestinely influence, promote or discredit certain messages, candidates or groups during the campaign.” The federal elections will be held in the fall.
