Former Mississauga mayor, Hazel MCCallion, turns down Ford’s $150k per year patronage appointment

The Canadian Politician – Not many in Canada will reject a $150k per year posh job and the attendant perks. But former long-time Mississauga mayor, Hazel McCallion, was somehow able to decline the offer from Premier Doug Ford to advise his government on housing matters in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas.

The 97 year-old (soon to be 98) former mayor indicated that she is too busy to serve in such a role, but said that she would be willing to assist in an informal capacity when called upon. She stated, “Doug, I will help you any way I can, but I’m not taking a salary.”  The 97 year old who sits on eight boards with extensive commitments would be turning 98 on February 14.  She was mayor of Ontario’s third largest city from 1978 to 2014.
